Full vaccination and adherences to health safety measures are the best protection against covid 19, according to the Minister of Health and Medical Services.
Minister Togamana said on Thursday 24 February that data has indicated that most fully vaccinated people that were sick with covid-19 at the start of the outbreak in Honiara city have fully recovered with most now returning to work.
Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect families, communities, and ourselves against COVID-19. Evidence indicates that vaccines are effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19.
Having as many people vaccinated as possible reduces the risk of ongoing circulation of the virus. That is because the circulation of the virus could result in the development of new variants of concern.
The outbreak in Honiara is now slowing down but the situation remains grim in other provinces since the virus has already reached many rural communities and it will continue to penetrate too many more communities.
“The only single most effective means through which we can mitigate the worst impact of COVID-19 to ourselves is to get vaccinated and maintain adherence to the COVID-19 safe measures and protocols,” Minister Togamana reiterated.
