Solomon Islands: Prime Minister welcomes the increased engagement of the United States with his country.

In a press release from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, made available to the media today, Thursday, the Prime Minister, the Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, has said he commended and welcomed the increased engagement of the United States with the Solomon Islands.
The PM’s words were expressedduring a courtesy visit made by the US Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Her Excellency Catherine Ebert-Gray, and yesterday afternoon at the Office of the Prime Minister.
The OPMC press release added, quote”
“Prime Minister Sogavare acknowledged the “important” role played by the US in keeping peace in many parts of the world.
“He said the US and Solomon Islands have a long- standing relationship and both share common histories especially with the local coast watchers supporting the US Army during the Second World War on Guadalcanal.
“Meanwhile, in her statement to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Ebert-Gray stated that Solomon Islands is an important partner to the US.
“HE Ebert-Gray said the United States maintains her relationship with the Solomon Islands despite whatever had transpired following the government’s recent decision on SI’s foreign policy.
“Ebert- Gray further assured the Prime Minister that the United States will stay with Solomon Islands over the long haul.
“She also stated that United States and Solomon Islands have a strong enduring partnership; hence, US will continue to provide developmental support to the country under the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Threshold programme (MCC) as well as all other programmes to support the country.
