Speaking on the first day of a Regional Conference on Disability recently held in Nadi, Fiji, Mr. Charlie Maeke from the Solomon Islands told the audience from the Pacific Youth Regional Forum on Disability of the many challenges and obstacles, including discrimination, faced by disabled youths, like himself, in getting access to skills development and entrepreneurship due to discriminatory treatment at home.
Mr. Maeke went on to say that accessibility to education and employment opportunities for youths with disabilities in the Solomon Islands is a challenge. He also reported that it was equally a challenge for youths with disabilities to access scholarships for the TVET program and getting enrolled to the program because priority is given to young people without a disability.
