The Solomon Times Online this morning carried the heartbreaking and sickening report of the alleged rape and death of a ten year old child in the Solomon Islands.
The Editorial piece called for the way rapists are dealt with by the law and the manner in which women and girls in particular can, and should, be better protected from sexual violence, including domestic violence.
The thought provoking Editorial piece I thought well balanced and needs to be carefully studied by all in society to try and put an end to the scourge of evil evidently continually occurring in the Solomon Islands.
I have written several time about the prevalence of child sexual violence, including child rape and the manner offenders should be dealt with by the law.
Most recently on 9 October this year I wrote a letter in which I said –
“The local media reports daily on sexual violence and increasingly on rape involving child victims. I wait to see the annual report of the Commissioner of Police for 2020 to understand the full extent of such criminal acts and actions taken by the police and the courts.”
I extend my deepest sympathy to the parents, siblings, teachers, friends and those in the community of the deceased child.
Please, let all combine to stop such horrible crimes in society.
Yours sincerely
