Letter to the Editor, Island Sun Newspaper.

The Solomon Islands may not have won a gold medal at the Rio Summer Olympic Games but 19 year old Rosifelo Siosi set a new personal best time in his event and Sharon Firisua did not win her race when competing at the Glenhuntly Athletics Club in Melbourne but never the less she surpassed her previous personal best set at the Pacific Games last year.
The outstanding  achievements of these two Solomon Islands athletes on the international stage has served to illustrate that both are tough, resilient, mentally strong, and competitive; positive values I believe that also represent their countrymen on the field of sport, whether in athletics, football or futsal competitions.
The greater realization is sport is a human institution, a universal phenomenon which serves to instill a sense of belonging or meaning to many individuals lives and brings a sense of belonging and national pride to the country as a whole.
Well done Sharon and Rossie you have made your country proud!
