The National Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SolTuna and Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands Ltd to purchase and promote their products at the 2021 World Expo in Dubai.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry labour and Immigration Riley Mesepitu signed the MOU with representatives of the two local companies in Honiara today to formalise the arrangement.

The MOU allows the Government to purchase the company products for display, promotions and sale at the Solomon Islands Pavilion at the World Expo 2021.
The Expo is scheduled to run from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. It is the first ever World Expo held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.

The event is expected to attract people from every background to experience, explore, innovate, and share ideas and while establishing networks for trade.

Mr Mesepitu said SolTuna is the country’s famous brand, and Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands Ltd are two leading companies producing products that can compete in the international market.

This promotional activity is driven as part of the DCGA redirection policy to put more emphasis on export-oriented production.

The direction had assigned the MCILI to collaborate with other government institutions and key stakeholders to organise and conduct trade missions and marketing promotion for the private sector in selected countries for local goods and services to market access and investments.

In this case, the government support the private sector to promote their products at the Dubai Expo.

“Over the six months, more than 25 million people will attend the event, and we hope that many will visit the Solomon Islands Pavilion to experience our products,” Mesepitu said.

He conveyed the Governments gratitude to the two companies for their active leadership in this exercise.
