Unity of purpose and effort seen as pre-requisites for the 2023 Solomon Islands Pacific Games
In a pre-recorded video message shown to all the participant teams at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, assured the Pacific Islands athletes that the Solomon Islands will host the 2023 Pacific Games in the ‘Solomon Way’ using new sporting venues.
The Prime Minister vowed to match Samoa’s efforts in 2023.
The theme of the 2023 Pacific Games has been chosen as simply, challenge, celebrate and unite.
Given the challenge in hosting the 2023 Pacific Games and the immense preparation that lies ahead, I would be inclined, at this early stage, to say, unite, challenge and then celebrate.
Unity of purpose is essential and I am pleased to have noted that a number of people have expressed, on line via social media, their desire to support the Games preparation.
It is hoped that an Organising Committee will soon be established to prepare for the event and such a Committee will be given every backing by a united community.
I also very much hope that once the Games are successfully over all the venues will be put to practical use and the funds generated for the Games, and during the event, will bring benefits for the community and for the environment of the city more generally.
I shall look forward to observing the preparations and, hopefully, be able to witness to actual commencement of the Games in 2023.
