Suimae hails waste management initiative

FRIENDS of the City President Judah Suimae says he really appreciated the ‘School Re-thinking Plastic Initiative’ program under the UNDP Waste Management Innovation Initiative in partnership with Solomon Islands Government (SIG).
Suimae made the acknowledgement remarks as a participant in Tuesday’s validation workshop on the initiative conducted by UNDP.
He said the program is a way forward to the betterment of the country in terms of waste management.
He said on the 30th of last month, there’s a declaration where the Honiara city has been declared as an environmental learning city.
“Following the declaration, a lot of things will be unfolded and I believe the re-thinking plastic initiative conducted by UNDP is part of that,” he said.
He said also thanked the Japanese government through JICA’s Learning and Ecological Activities Foundation for Children (LEAF) project initiative project also on waste management.
“They have designed three facilities to also address waste management and one of the recycling facilities was at Ranadi rubbish dumb and other one is at SINU for compose and another one is set to be located at the Botanical garden,” he said.
