Solomon Islands: Adaption to the new reality of digitalization in a post Covid 19 world
Last week readers of the news in the Solomon Islands were told the Solomon Islands government was seeking funding to construct a new 4G network to service rural areas, including the erection of 200 towers throughout the country.
It was said the reasoning behind the plan was reportedly because of the $US50 million cost required to upgrade the network to deliver the full benefits of the new fibre-optic submarine cable.
The news got me thinking about how the Solomon Islands is likely to change when the 4G network is fully operational because, as I see it arising from the onset and spread of coronavirus throughout the globe, but thankfully not in the Solomons, things are unlikely to be the same again.
Solomon Islands must prepare to ensure new skills are advanced and new approaches to business technology are developed in a digitalisation world. In other words, digitalisation needs to be promoted to enhance, communications and productivity in the future.
I see the need too for a pivot to business models, business thinking and fresh strategies in order to meet demands and customer requirements.
The new reality will require new skills and perhaps it is time for local students to prepare for the upcoming new economy post Covid 19
I see students needing to have skills in 5 main areas of expertise, which could be:
Graduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence Strategy for Business
Graduate Diploma in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence
Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics & Data Storytelling
Graduate Diploma in Digital Transformation & Innovation, and a Graduate Diploma in Digital Forensics and Cyber Security.
Yours sincerely
