Charley Piringi in Honiara has written to say the Isidro Care Centre poultry in West Guadalcanal, is looking at doubling its egg production.
I will quote his story for readers.
They produce 250 trays of egg weekly, generating $7000 SBD income a week to support the school.
The school for people with special need who have speech and hearing impairment has been struggling to keep afloat since its establishment in 2007.
Students unable to pay their fees were allowed to work for the school during holidays to meet their fees.
Thanks to the Caritas New Zealand as well as the Ministry Agriculture and Livestock for the funding support to the poultry.
Their current market outlet is the Bulk Shop.
The Center enrolled more than 30 students this year.
End of quote.
Footnote.
San Isidro Centre was established in 2007 by the late Br. George Van de Zant SM who initially established Saint Martin RTC in Central Guadalcanal and Styvenburg RTC in Makira.
Comment
My thanks too for the support of Caritas in New Zealand and the local Ministry of Agriculture and livestock for aiding San Isidro with its poultry unit and egg production.
San Isidro Centre does excellent work in aiding people with special needs and is deserving of any financial support to continue the work it undertakes.
Yours sincerely
Frank Short
