Letter to the Editors, Island Sun and Solomon Star Newspapers.
It was reported in the Island SUN newspaper last week that the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), donated more than 33,000 yards of fabric worth around $SBD625,000 and handed over the gift to the Prime Minister, the Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, at a ceremony held at the Solomon Islands Ports Authority in Honiara.
The donation came from the ‘Simply Help’ foundation, a Taiwanese-American Charity based in Los Angeles, United States.
It is understood the fabric will soon be distributed so that rural communities in the country will have the opportunity to make their own clothes, free of charge.
A most generous and practical donation for which I would like to express my thanks to the Government of the Republic of China (ROC) and to the ‘Simply Help’ Foundation in the USA.
