Honiara : 11 February 2016
The Prime Minister, the Hon, Manasseh Sogavare, launched the Solomon Islands Public Sector Baseline Satisfactory Survey Report 2015 at the opening of a Permanent Secretaries Workshop in Honiara, today.
Funded by the Australian Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and conducted by the Queensland University, the survey report had assessed customer satisfaction levels, regarding services which public offices had offered to customers and members of the general public.
The survey report also gathered views from public servants about the way Ministries are managed and how their work is appraised for efficiency and effectiveness.
While the report highlights some general improvements on the performance of public offices, it also raised a lot of critical issues about public servants and the impacts on the outcomes of implementing Government programs and plans.
“Clearly, the report gives us a clear warning – that our public offices need to step up our performance standards and improve on the quality and timeliness of services we give our people and the business community,” Prime Minister Sogavare said.
The Prime Minister urged Permanent Secretaries to pay close attention to developing a Performance Bench-Mark Framework that can be used to guide that way public offices improve general service delivery.
The half day Permanent Secretaries workshop was facilitated by the Chairman and Commissioners of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
