The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is boosting much-needed medical supplies to Provincial health centers as covid-19 penetration surges in rural areas.
Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr. Culwick Togamana said on Thursday 24 February that supplies are currently being prioritized to stock-up Provincial hospitals, Clinics, Area and Rural Health Centers, and Nurse Aid posts as they are currently experiencing or most likely to experience a surge of severely ill COVID patients.
“We are continuing to deploy to the provinces oxygen concentrators, regulators and biomedical equipment, respiratory consumables, and COVID medications for the management of COVId-19 patients,” Minister Togamana said.
In addition, Virtual PPE and Essential Clinical Care training sessions continue between national and provincial medical workers to transfer knowledge and skills to health workers serving in rural communities.
Work on further expanding the reach of COVID-19 public safety messages to people in rural communities is ongoing in close partnership with faith-based organizations.
The Ministry is also deploying extra COVID-19 vaccines to provinces to move vaccines closer to communities either through mobile outreach or provision and administration of the vaccines at make-shift fixed sites and health clinics.
So far vaccination coverage of health workers across the country has been a success reflected in many that have contracted the virus now fully recovered and returned to work.
The Ministry is also implementing recommendations provided by the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT). Some of the actions are underway while others such as the establishment of a Rapid Response Training Team to provide technical support through training of medical workers across health facilities, the establishment of a national clinical COVID-19 consultant duty roster to provide urgent clinical care advice, and many more are still being mapped out.
