Promoting the Solomon Islands

Recent riots and civil disorder in Honiara prompted several would-be film makers to post their videos of the aftermath of the troubling scenes on U-tube.

I would encourage those amateur film makers to portray the beauty of the Solomon Islands, its unique holiday travel locations, its many aspects of traditional dance, music and culture.

U Tube has an interested and increasing number of visitors on line and it might be worth while the SIVB, Solomon Airways and Travel Solomons working together with those talented behind the camera to promote all that is best of the Solomon Islands.

The same might be said of those in the government and in the various government Ministries, such as the Agricultural, Health, and Fisheries and those connected with the potential of exports of crops, commodities and products.

The recent Dubai Expo proved there is an interest in the Solomon Island’s export products. U-Tube could provide an alternative means of marketing at least cost if filming is done in a coordinated manner.

The travel industry could benefit greatly, I believe, if travel films could be produced locally and promoted in the right way on the widely viewed on-line source which U-tube allows.

Yours sincerely
