Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare on Friday conveyed his Easter Greetings to the Nation, with a special thought for the sick in hospitals and frontline workers throughout the country.
In his broadcast message which began on Good Friday, Sogavare applauded all Solomon Islanders at home and abroad on the festivity of this year’s Eastertide.
The Prime Minister said Easter signifies the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, redemption over condemnation, and hope over despair, and an enduring hope for humanity.
“I wish you all God’s peace that is beyond human understanding, as you gather with your families, loved ones, and friends over the Easter weekend to remember our Lord’s sacrificial death and resurrection,” he said.
“On behalf of my family and my Government, I extend best wishes to our Christian community and to the entire nation for a Happy and Holy Easter 2022,” he added.
PM. Sogavare also used the message to reflect on the country’s journey in the last 12 months – highlighting the difficulties the country went through as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and other natural and man-made disasters.
“The last 12 months has been the toughest for our nation. COVID 19 has seriously affected our economy, export earnings and revenue. All of us had felt this new level of pain like never before. In these challenging and uncertain times, I pray that you experience the peace and love of our never-failing God this Easter,” he said.
The Prime Minister recognized the suffering and hardship caused by the virus that many continue to suffer from during this festive season, saying, that regardless of “the hardship we experienced in the past few years, there is no doubt that this Easter season remains special. It is a time to remember Christ’s sacrificial love and triumph over sin and death”.
In addition, the Prime Minister conveyed his appreciation to the country’s international friends for helping the country to remain in peace following the turmoil that ravaged the country last year.
“Solomon Islands owes its current state of peace, security, and economic wellbeing to the timely support from members of our Pacific family led by Australia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and New Zealand during the darkest days in our short history as a nation,” he said.
Mr, Sogavare extended his appreciation to the country’s bilateral partners including Japan, the People’s Republic of China, United Kingdom, United States, and our regional and international organisations.
