Here is an update on the NZ volunteer medical outreach ship YWAM KHOA’s work in Suva, Fiji and in Labasa.
Last week I wrote and told readers that the YWAM KOHA, the NZ medical outreach vessel, with volunteer doctors, nurses, and ship’s marine crew members had arrived in Suva in readiness for outreach medical and dental services in the Fijian outer islands.
Before the ship set out for the remote Fijian islands and the communites that live there, the six dentists with the ship delivered free dental services in Suva itself.
Today, even before the real outreach mission has really begun, I can report that so far –
390 primary health patients seen
60 dental patients treated
67 teeth extracted
121 toothbrushes and toothpaste were given out.
The latest news is that the YWAM KOHA and her crew are now in the north of Fiji, anchored just out from Labasa. The second team of medical and dental volunteers will arrive this weekend.
The medical outreach is focusing on the area immediately north of Labasa in partnership with local health workers.
The team was excited to give 42 boxes of medical supplies donated from businesses in Tauranga.
The donation will provide the Visogo Nurses Station with much-needed supplies to enable them to serve their people in the coming months.
Yours sincerely
