Needs assessments and help from social services in the Solomon Islands

Earlier this week I wrote to the local media by way of an appeal for a braille typewriter for a registered blind legal officer working in the public service and I very much would hope some kind person or company, bank, or organization will help to provide such an important work necessary for the physically disabled public servant.

I also have been told that a young adult in Malaita, greatly physically handicapped is in need of a wheelchair. His family is finding it very difficult to aid his mobility as his parents are struggling to cope due to their age and limited means.

I please ask for assistance in both instances, for a braille typewriter and a wheel chair and can be contacted by the link on my website – www.solomonislandsinfocus.com, or by email – nkhwazi2002@Yahoo.com.

I do not know of any arrangements in the Solomon Islands of needs assessments and help offered to disabled persons by a department of the government I would class as a Health and Social Care Ministry, of Department where social care and assessments are carried out as duty requirements to find out what specific help and support disabled persons need, like health care equipment in the home or at work, but if absent, then I believe there is a pressing need for such Ministry/Department services.

In the UK, Australia and the USA, the welfare and needs of the disabled are assessed and help given by way of grants and financial support provided.

Yours sincerely
