PERMANENT Secretary for the Ministry of Provincial Government Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) Stanley Dick Pirione has assured Malaitans of the European Union (EU) support of $78 million for water, sanitation and Education.
The funding is to support Provincial Capacity Development Projects in the country which Malaita province will benefit from.
Mr Pirione adds that on top of that, the government has also received $7 million euro to help fight the impacts of climate change in the country.
“These are the assured projects that will happen.”
“I believe these are opportunities to utilize for the benefit of our provinces including Malaita,” Mr. Pirione said
However, he said these programs cannot be implemented to the full extent unless a good vibrant, and effective workforce is on the ground.
He added, that the issue of capacity building and maintenance has been an ongoing activity that benefits provincial workers and legislators.
The PS said, despite the impact of COVID 19, the government through his ministry will continue to embark on its capacity development program to equip the provinces to ready for social-economic development.
He said that his ministry is in the process of providing the required staff for Malaita and dialogue concerning difficulties experience by the Ministry in terms of recruitment.
He also assured Malaitans that the national government through MPGIS will continue to work together with the Malaita provincial government to iron out their differences.
