Undercurrents in the Tina River Hydro scheme boil over
Quoting the Island Sun newspaper – 4 July 2019
“Land disputes which have dogged the development of the multi-million dollar Tina River Hydro Scheme for years have resurfaced, threatening the project from taking off the ground.
The latest threat comes from 23 tribal landowning groups that warned unless authorities take their concerns seriously, no one would be allowed to enter their land.
“Representatives of each of the tribal landowning group told Island Sun yesterday they had held three meetings in which their position was discussed.
“Six resolutions were passed on 29th June this year.
They are demanding “proper identification and demarcation of customary land owned by each of the 23 tribal land-owning groups.”
