Japanese Government supporting more schools in the Solomon Islands
Coming just days after the Japanese Government, in terms of its Grassroots Development Assistance Programme to the Solomon Islands, delivered a new classroom to the Varu Adventist Primary School on Kolombangara in the Western Province, the Japanese Ambassador; H.E. Shigeru Toyama has signed contracts with two schools for funding support.
The Ambassador last week signed the contracts with representatives of Valapata Primary School in the Western Province and St Joseph’s at Moli in Choiseul.
At the time of the contract agreement, Ambassador Toyama said he was pleased to grant contracts with the two schools who will receive funding from his government under Japan’s Grassroots and Human Security Scheme.
Ambassador Toyama said that education was the key to development and progress; a reason why Japan sought to prioritise the education sector.
He reportedly added, “We believe these two projects will benefit many students in and around Valapata and Moli communities and will have positive impacts on the development of human resources of Solomon Islands.”
In terms of the contract funding agreements, Valapata Primary School was allocated $690,000 and St Joseph’s $700,000 for their respective classrooms.
After the contract signing, Ambassador Toyama said he encouraged the two schools to implement their projects well so that they would benefit their respective communities.
He also added the two projects were good examples of the cooperation between the governments and people of Solomon Islands and Japan.
