Japan assist Tumurora School

THE government of Japan has provided a funds worth of US$75,386 to Tumurora Primary School for construction of their classroom building through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

H.E. Mr. MIWA Yoshiaki, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan, handed over a new classroom building to Mr BEN Tom, Chairman, Tumurora Primary School, yesterday.

The school is located at Tumurora Community, Ghaobata Ward 21, North Guadalcanal Constituency.

 The Government of Japan funded the construction of a school two classroom buildings for Tumurora Primary School and Kindergarten School.

This assistance will enable the school to provide appropriate learning environment to students.

“I am proud our two countries continue to cooperate on important educational initiatives throughout Solomon Islands, and especially to provide much needed support to underserved communities in this country.

“And I hope that the new school buildings will be remembered as a symbol of the friendship between our two countries for many years to come”, mentioned by H.E. Mr. MIWA Yoshiaki, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan,” he said.

He said the GGP program is part of the overall Japanese ODA implemented by the Embassy of Japan in order to empower the people from the grassroots level.

He said the GGP program in Solomon Islands has been widely implemented in areas such as education, water supply, health, waste management since 1999.

“To date, more than 200 projects have been implemented under the GGP program which amounts to an approximate value exceeding USD 14.3 million,” he concluded.
