Letter to the Editor, Island Sun Newspaper

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Japanese Embassy in Honiara and to the Government of Japan for the most generous and practical assistance to the Honiara  Special Development Centre of the Red Cross Society.
Last week, His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, Mr. Kenichi Kimiya, signed a project grant worth SDD$400,000 with the local Red Cross Society (SIRC) which will facilitate the SIRC purchasing a new 30 seat bus allowing many students safe transport to the SDC.
With reliable transport it is expected the numbers of students attending the school providing special educational skills and training will increase because, until now, many students have been unable to travel to the SDC situated at Rifle Range due to transport difficulties.
In addition to aiding the SDC with funds to acquire a bus, the Japanese Government has also provided a new ambulance for the RSIPF team working with the disposal of unexploded ordinance.
Thank you Ambassador Kimiya and, through your Embassy, the Government and people of Japan, especially for thinking of the needs of children with special needs and the police ordnance disposal team.
