False rumours about vaccinations against Covid-19 must be discounted

It is claimed in the Solomon Times Online today that social media platforms in the Solomon Islands are continuing to make false claims about Covid-19 vaccines, prompting Dr, Jimmy Rodger to say such claims are false.

I agree that what claims are said to have been made (as reported in the paper I have mentioned) are complete rubbish and all citizens of the Solomon Islands that are eligible to get a vaccination should do so as soon as possible.

Covid-19 and its variant Delta is present in NSW, in parts of Queensland and Victoria.

The delta variant is present in Fiji and New Zealand is now in total lockdown as one delta strain of Covid 19 has been found in the community there.

The delta variant is highly infectious and easily transferable.

In Fiji as of 16 August, 536,123 adults in Fiji had received their first dose of the vaccine and 216,012 have got both jabs.

Dr Fong, the Health Secretary, said this meant that 91.4 percent of the target population had received at least one dose and 36.8 percent are now fully vaccinated nation-wide.

The vaccine roll out is continuing in Malaita and I hope that all will cast aside false rumours being spread about the vaccine and, like in Fiji, get vaccinated to provide protection for themselves, their family, their wantoks and the province and the nation.

Yours sincerely
