Employment opportunities in Australia for Solomon Islanders.
Yesterday I wrote that over 200 Solomon Islanders had travelled to Australia recently to take up paid employment as seasonal workers on Australian agricultural farms,
Australia, in addition to its Seasonal Workers Programme also operates a Pacific Labour Scheme for Pacific workers, but I believe it was several months ago that I read of a group of Solomon Islanders having gone to Australia to be employed in the meat industry.
Today, Radio New Zealand gave news that a total of 177 Fijians flew recently to New South Wales to work in meat factories as part of the Pacific Labour Scheme.
The RNZ report cited that the cost of quarantine for the 177 Fijians would be met by the New South Wales State government.
What, if any similar work opportunites are likely for Solomon Islanders this year?
Yours sincerely
