TSI to MoFT: Prioritize NRH Hospital and Clinics

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper – 19 June 2018

“TRANSPARENCY Solomon Islands is deeply concerned over the shortage of drugs and other necessary medication in the National Referral Hospital and clinics, as was reported earlier.

“Revelations have resurfaced that responsible authorities, especially the Ministry of Finance and Treasury has not prioritized the procurement of these vital and necessary drugs.

“Given the boat loads of engines, roofing irons and many other goods that are now being distributed to constituencies, it does not need a rocket scientist to ascertain which payments are being prioritized.

“This has resulted in the unavailability of these drugs in the national Referral Hospital, depriving sick people, of the medication they need and reducing the level of medical care they need as nurses and doctors struggled to take care of the sick.

“The complaints raised by women giving birth having to be stitched up without any local anaesthetics, and children whose parents had to buy medicine from privately owned pharmacies, or not completing their injections needs serious attention.

“TSI calls on National Government to prioritize Ministry of Health and Medical Services drugs procurement payment for the sake of our people.”
