Solomon Islands Prime Minister, the Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, has re-affirmed his DCC Government’s commitment to support and strengthen gender equality through the elimination of gender based violence and child abuse.
Speaking at the official launching of the Family Protection Act (FPA) on Friday, last week, The Prime Minister said domestic violence is a human rights problem that affects the personal security of persons and their right to live their full lives free from oppression.
The Prime Minister stressed, “To be successful in the application of the Family Protection Act, equality and non-discrimination are the essential elements for a united, progressive and peaceful co-existence in our society.”
Similarly, the PM added, “the Government is also committed to strengthening the National Judicial and Legal System and Apparatus in the Solomon Islands to effectively support the full implementation of the FPA.”
In a separate development, it is further announced that the DCCG will table a Bill on Sexual Offences and a Child and Family Welfare Bill during the upcoming sitting of Parliament.
