Bred Bank Solomon Staff Donates Pinktober proceeds to the NRH Cancer Unit

BRED Bank Solomon staff presented a cheque for $1,000 to the Cancer Unit at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) on Thursday 28 October 2021.

The money was raised during a #pinktober fundraiser event on Friday 22 October 2021. The fundraiser included selling of pink ribbons plus donations from staff, and the bank.

During the handover last Friday, Kukum Branch Manager Ms Rose Abana stated that this will be an annual event for BRED Bank Solomon Staff.

As a foreign bank, we understand that our duty towards the people of Solomon Islands goes beyond convenient banking services, easily accessible loans and fair interest rates for everyone.

On receiving the cheque, Dr Soma of the Cancer Unit thanked BRED Solomon Staff for the kind donation. Dr. Soma said cancer is not the most comfortable illness; hence, apart from equipment, the Cancer Unit needs a lot of items to help cancer patients feel comfortable while undergoing their chemotherapy treatments. Most of the things in the Cancer Unit have been donated by groups, business houses and individuals. At the moment, the Cancer Unit also lacks a Mammogram which is used to detect cancer in the breast.

The Cancer Unit will create a “wish list “of items they need so that the public can donate.

Breast Cancer is the second cancer killer here in the Solomon Islands. If you notice any unusual changes on the breast, seek medical attention immediately! You can visit the Cancer Unit on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons, or go to your nearest clinic and they can assist you from there!

Comment.

I, too, would like to thank Bred Bank and its staff for the generous donation of $1,000 to the Cancer Unit at the NRH.

A mammogram machine is a vitally important piece of equipment needed immediately at the National Referral Hospital and I would appeal to all SI’s organizations, business houses, generous individuals and donor partners and locally based international agencies to please give one, or more, mammogram machines to the NRH to be put to use in early detection of breast cancer to save lives.

Please do help.

In the interim, I would please request Dr. Soma to send me the “wish list” of what he believes is needed at the hospital’s cancer unit. I can be contacted by the link on my international website, or by email at nkhwazi2002@yahoo.com.

Yours sincerely
