Following the aftermath of the Honiara street riots and strife, several Solomon Islanders took to taking video footage of the then relatively deserted main streets and roads, largely devoid of traffic and people.
Their video footage was subsequently posted on U-Tube and remarkably to me was the chorus of bird songs one could hear above the narration of the speaker describing what he saw.
It was pleasant to the ear and a reminder to me that bird songs and natural sounds of flowing water have a restorative effect on one’s psyche. According to researchers bird songs and the sounds of nature physically alter the connection in our brains, reducing our body’s natural flight-or-flight instinct.
The Solomon Islands is well blest with a large variety of birds and maybe the same amateur filmmakers could take to recording and filming more of the SI’s birds and nature for U-Tube viewers relaxation channels.
If that should happen some income might be earned but it would certainly add to the interest and attractiveness of the Solomon Islands as an attractive holiday destination.
Sincerely
Frank Short
