The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) says the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) is currently assisting the Ministry to conduct a rapid assessment of provincial health systems this week.
Yesterday, AUSMAT and MHMS officials were deployed to Kiluúfi hospital in Auki to conduct the first rapid assessment. Malaita currently has 500 cases of COVID-19. A total of 68 recoveries have also been recorded, with 7 deaths.
All AUSMAT personnel abided by strict COVID-19 safety measures during the deployment including negative COVID tests prior to departure.
The provincial deployments will ensure that AUSMAT can continue to provide tailored clinical advisory support to MHMS to assist it to support the provinces to access critical supplies as they respond to escalating COVID-19 outbreaks.
The visits are also an opportunity for healthcare workers to discuss the challenges they are facing with Australian doctors and nurses who have experienced COVID-19 outbreaks in Australia, PNG, Fiji, and Timor-Leste.
The total cumulative positive COVID-19 cases for the country now stands at 4,827 - which includes 132 positive cases that were not included in the Permanent Secretary’s update on Sunday.
Of the 4,827 cases, 3,810 cases are recorded in Honiara, while 1,017 are recorded in the provinces.
