Yesterday in Honiara, the Prime Minister was the first to have the AstraZeneca vaccine and he was followed by several of his cabinet, government members, and by Miss Solomon Islands, Ms. Gladys Habu.
It is intended that the Covid-19 vaccine will be rolled out to include everyone in Solomon Island.
In the UK the news today is the AstraZeneca vaccine has been hailed as a great success and the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital is expected to half by next month
Writing in the Daily Express, Oliver Trapnell said the news reinforces the success of the UK's vaccination rollout - and indicates a strong possibility that lockdown easing will continue as planned. Admissions to English hospitals are set to be drastically cut down and Covid related deaths are expected to fall from 92 to fewer than 20 a day.
Government models shared with the Times predict a drop in hospital patients from over 4,000 to about 2,000 next month, confirming the successful impact of the UK's vaccination rollout.
Comment.
I wish for the success of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the Solomon Islands and hope that everyone will take the opportunity of getting the vaccine when it is fully available throughout the country.
Prime Minister Sogavare said yesterday that the war against COVID-19 is not yet over and he called on Solomon Islanders over the age of 18 to take the vaccination and help protect the country against the deadly virus.
Yours sincerely
