In the Solomon Islands Non communicable diseases are costing many lives and serious life threatening health conditions putting an enormous strain on the doctors and nurses, the National Referral Hospital (NRH), provincial hospitals and costing millions to the government in health care.
Attention is being given to promoting and encouraging sporting activities outdoor, including running and walking to bring about a change in personal lifestyles that could generate health benefits and reduce the high incidence of NCDs.
It has been found that many rural youths do not have shoes fit for running and I would hope such a handicap could be overcome if running shoes could be donated in sizes from 36 upwards.
