Agricultural trade in the Solomon Islands
Trade plays a crucial role in delivering food to consumers worldwide. It helps to provide greater choice in consumer goods, and has played a role in reducing food insecurity.
While its newest diplomatic partner, the PRC, is said to be assisting in the infrastructure and development planning and financing, I see the need for the Solomon Islands to begin working, if not already, with the OECD,
The OECD, analyses the impacts of trade and agricultural policies to assist countries in making informed policy decisions that will help make agro-food trade work.
Among the changes seen in agro-food markets, there has been a significant increase in trade among emerging and developing countries, which are increasing in importance, both as suppliers and markets for agro-food products.
The Solomon Islands and its development partners must not miss the boat at the cost of losing out to faster developing countries.
Yours sincerely
