Letter to the Editor, Solomon Star and Island Sun newspapers.
The reported theft of an engraved plate from a memorial unveiled at Bloody Ridge Memorial Park just a week ago is shameful and I hope the person or persons responsible for such reprehensible conduct will soon be apprehended by the police.
The theft has served to disrespect the valour of all those soldiers who gave up their lives at Bloody Ridge during the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II.
In the state of New South Wales in Australia the vandalism, theft and desecration of monuments in public places is a statutory offence.
