A total of 140 Solomon Islands Chinese that were affected by the November 2021 violent riots, looting and burning down of shops in Honiara have returned to settle back in China.Solomon Islands Ambassador to the Republic of China (PRC) His Excellency John Moffat Fugui informed SIBC News in a recent interview.
H.E Ambassador Fugui said he will facilitate and support these 140 Solomon Islands Chinese that returned to PRC.
He told SIBC News that those that were returned include individuals and families.
“Although they returned to China, I will not leave these people because they are our people, they are Solomon Islanders, and now that they are here (China) I will not leave them alone but support them,” he said.
The Ambassador has arranged to meet with the 140 Solomon Islands Chinese that returned.
He said these 140 Solomon Islands Chinese returned to China in December last year.
“Whether they are directly or indirectly affected by the November riots, they returned because of that riot, but the important point is; when they were in Solomon Islands, they were our people and now that they are in China, they are still our people,” he said.
Solomon Islands Chinese Association President Henry Kwan could not be reached for comments as he was currently out of the country.
